Addicted!!
I am addicted. I have been on one run and I am convinced that this should be an
Olympic sport. I am referring to the r
ide on Feb.
13th. We started out from Safeway and off we went. I am not familiar with the area and it
felt as Steve was leading us to now where, but we finally got to the trail. As
many of you can remember it was snowing that day and Steve promised us that the ride was
going to be a 2 maybe a 3 here and there, HA. We met up with a couple of guys that had the
old Chevy pickup with the tracks on it, pretty neat stuff. Steve started us out on a
pretty simple trail with some pretty good snow and some good woops on it, I believe that
someone got hung up with their rig but I do not remember who it was. We got off that trail
and Steve led us to another spot where we were going to have a little hill climb t
o get to the trail, well as we remember it was a little
hill but caused a lot of chaos. I was the third truck in the caravan and as I watched
Steve try to make the hill I got a little worried, as my truck had no lockers or winch.
Steve was having some problems getting up the hill and, I believe his name was Mike, tried
to get up in front of him and he also encountered some problems. While this was going on I
said that there was no way that I was going to make it up the hill without some help. I do
not remember his name, but the guy with thecamouflage Comanche took the upper route and
was able to anchor Steve to get him up the hill. The Silver Bullet budged inline and
decided to take a stab at the hill. He had a couple of slips but once he started there wa
s no stopping him. Steve then was able to winch Mike up
and then it was my turn. Now please remember this was only my second run. I put it into 4
low and started in first gear. I soon learned that Istarted out wrong and had to shift to
second, lost some momentum but still got the front end on the trail but them lost all
footings. Steve wanted to know if I wanted a pull or another shot and I took the option
for the another shot. I started out in second gear so I would not have to shift half way
up the hill. I got to the same spot and gunned it and I conquered the hill. It was
quite an experience for me; I think that that iswhat finally got me hooked. After I moved
ahead on the trail I came back to help with other vehicles and their quest to conquer this
monster. Steve almost tipped on us but his driving skills kept
the run clean. I was waiting to see how this monster with the tracks on it
would fair with this new monster hill and to my surprise it was having problems
getting to the base of the hill. As many of you were talking about, the tracks were nice
but no lockers, he also needed a winch up. After about 90 minutes on this hill that Steve
rated a 2 or a 3....or as someone said a 3.9, we continued on. The rest of the trail was
pretty simple with a couple of woops and then we were back to the main road. At that point
I had to take off because of the 4 and half hour drive back to the other side of the
state. This was primarily a pretty simple run but I learned a lot of
things and gained some more experience and confidence in
my rig. There are, of course, room for improvements but I had a blast.
Hope to see everyone on the next run.
