DAKOTA TERRITORY CHALLENGE 2010
FOUR-WHEELING IN THE BLACK HILLS OF SOUTH DAKOTA

Dear Four Wheeling Enthusiast:

The Black Hills 4-Wheelers are proud to present the 28th ANNUAL DAKOTA TERRITORY CHALLENGE. We would like to invite you to join us in kicking off a new decade of wheeling, broken parts and big smiles at the DTC. The Challenge will be held September 2nd through September 6th, 2010.

The Dakota Territory Challenge offers a variety of trails with several levels of difficulty.  We have trails that are just for you whether you like scenic tours, moderate trails, or technical rock crawling.  Trail ratings are assigned so that you know the vehicle requirements for each and trail descriptions will be posted in the registration tent at the event. All vehicles will undergo a technical inspection and will be ranked based on the vehicle requirements listed in the trail ratings.  Please review the vehicle requirements and come prepared.

We are pleased to announce that the event headquarters will be at the Whispering Pines Campground again this year. The General Store has a full line of groceries, snack bar and western style gift shop. With breakfast specials every morning, sack lunches available for lunch on the trail and a supper special each night when you return you won’t go hungry! The campground is located at the intersection of US Highway 385 and the Silver City junction. In addition to our normal camping, Whispering Pines has four cabins and one house for rent. Call 605-341-3667 for reservations if you are interested in the rentals or if you will be arriving early for the Challenge. You can also check their web site Multimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or Register. Camping spots are on a first come first serve basis. Please check in with the campground upon arrival. If arriving late you must park on the gravel road around the store. Do not pull into a campsite without registering.

The DTC 2010 fee for each vehicle, its driver, and four nights of camping is $200.  Each additional passenger age 16 and older will be charged $60. A new change for the event this year is that the 2010 Challenge registered vehicles allowed has been reduced to 75. So don’t delay, get your applications in quickly. Registration deadline is May 15, 2010. Registrations will be processed using a lottery system. All registrations will be assigned a number as they are received and a drawing will be held after the deadline date of May 15th, 2010. If there are still spots open after the deadline we will keep registration open until the event is filled. If you want to attend the event with friends, put all your registrations together in the same envelope. Multiple registrations in one envelope will be drawn together during the lottery. Cancellations prior to July 1st, 2010 will be refunded after the Challenge. Cancellations after July 1st, 2010 are non-refundable. Registration transfers will be accepted if notification of the transfer is received by August 15th, 2010.  Please make sure that you sign the back of the application before you mail it in. A $35 NSF fee will be charged for any returned checks.
We offer sweatshirts, T-shirts, hats, coffee mugs and pins imprinted with the Challenge logo. If you would like any of this merchandise, please send your order and payment with your registration. Should you need more information or help with a specific situation, please write or call us.

Difficulty 3:  For novice & experienced alike; the most fun 4-wheeling you can expect to have in a stock vehicle; low range may be required often; vehicle damage is possible.

Difficulty 3+: At this rating you are starting to stretch the capabilities of a stock vehicle and the novice driver. Larger than stock tires helpful; low range used; vehicle damage possible.

Difficulty 4:  Not advisable for novice drivers; potentially dangerous situations; maximum ground clearance, lowest gears, minimum 33-inch tires required; also lockers, limited slips, winches & jacks advised; vehicle damage likely. Full size vehicles limited to specific trails of this rating.

Difficulty 4+: All of 4, plus one locker or two limited slips required. Winches advised due to large boulders, steep inclines, etc... Full size vehicles limited to specific trails of this rating.

Difficulty 5:  Not advisable for novice drivers; potentially dangerous situations; maximum ground clearance, lowest gears, minimum 35-inch tires, and two lockers required; jacks and winches indispensable; vehicle damage is very likely. Full size vehicles limited to specific trails of this rating.

Spill Kits Highly Recommended

We highly recommend that all participants carry some type of spill kit to contain and clean up any spills that may occour on the trails.  All BH4W's vehicles are required to carrying a spill kit.

It is our (event staff and participants) responsibily to ensure that every possible attempt is made to prevent spills on the trails.

So enough about the rules right now!

Come join us for the DTC! I can't wait to see the old freinds made at DTC's in the past, meet new people and see the big smiles in the campground after a day of wheeling.

And lets not forget, some cool door prizes and a supper Sat night that will not dissapoint. Cool
