toyota front shackles
07/19/10 at 16:41:17

i built a set of front shackles for my 83 toy today, the front springs i scored are nice and soft but about 2 inches longer,

i built the shackles and they came out great, but now the longer shackle pivots differently obviously and the inside of the shackle plate on the outer side of the frame is coming down and resting itself tightly against the frame to the point that the shackle wont completely "depress" itself upward with the flex of the suspension

to make a long story short, the outer shackle plate on both sides of the truck needs to be moved out about 3/4" of an inch from the frame so the shackle can do it's thannnnng.

Can i just run longer bolts and like a 3/4" spacer between the plate and frame/ plate and spring on each shackle?

thanks guys

need a picture of said problem.
did you do the toyota bend on them?
we have a problem with them hitting the cab mount.
I am going to make some boomerang shackles for ours when I have some time.
It would not be much harder to make 3 sets after I get the jig set up, or the measurements.

yes, you can also run a spacer.

that would be cool mark, i just built these in class today off of the top of my head and yes they have the toyota bend on them, just not enough of a bend is what im saying so they are still hitting the bottom of the frame rail as they move upward.

these looked like they would hit the cab mount when i was mocking them up before installing them, so i notched about a inch or so out of the bottom of the cab mount so the shackle would clear, but it's not my problem; it's to shallow of a "toyota" bend in them causing them to hit the bottom of the frame, so i think i'll try and find a spacer for now until i can get a better setup. these will work just fine for now.

thanks for the help mark
